#  Hindu Celebration for Ganesh in California

On September 11, 1999, the *Los Angeles Times*  reportedthat thousands of Hindus are expected to attend a festival and paradecalled Ganesh Chaturthi, which honors Ganesh, the Hindu god known asthe remover of obstacles. The celebration is to take place atHuntington Beach, CA on Saturday, September 11th and is sponsored bythe local chapter of Maharashtra Mandal, an organization of more than4,000 Marathi-speaking people in Southern California. Archana Dongre,event organizer and a freelance writer for *Hinduism Today*, stated:"Ganesh is one of the most important deities of Hinduism...This deityis worshipped before all the other gods...because Ganesh has thepower to carry any project to fruition and is considered thereservoir of all knowledge and all arts."
