When Turkish Airlines’ inaugural Flight 8 from Washington, D.C. to Istanbul touched down recently, a unique delegation of Native leadership and U.S. Congressmen were among the 202 passengers on board.

It was the first direct flight between the U.S. capital and Istanbul, intended to signal stronger business ties between the United States and Turkey, and to foster new opportunities for First Americans.
