On October 25, 1999, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel published an article on the rising interest of young women inwitchcraft. With television shows such as "Charmed" and Sabrina theTeenage Witch" and a popular new book entitled, Teen Witch: Wiccafor a New Generation, Hollywood and book publishers have notedthe interest in witchcraft of those between the ages of 11 and 23.Vicki Just, who dispenses tea and tarot cards at the Village TeaHouse in Bay View, Wisconsin, stated: "Older women and young womenboth are trying to find their spirituality...Girls like the power andcontrol over their own lives." Despite the growing interest inwitchcraft, many of the witches whom the author of this articlecontacted through the Young Pagans Page of the Witchvox Web werehesitant to offer real names. Many of them find the Internet a way tointeract with others who share their beliefs without having to exposethemselves to public criticism.
