DESCRIPTION:Please join us for an iftar and speak-out the day after Malcolm X Day! We invite you to share your experiences and stories of resistance in order to build a stronger community. All -- Muslim and non, fasting or not -- are welcome.To honor the legacies of activist ancestors -- especially Malcolm X -- who spoke out against injustice, we invite those who have experienced abusive policing, surveillance, or profiling as national security threats to share your story in a way that feels comfortable to you. In addition to food and a warm community, we'll have art supplies and an open mic!Join us in reflecting on two themes from Ramadan that are relevant to social justice struggles. One: the strength that is gained <span class="text_exposed_show">in abstaining from that which you depend on. In fighting for justice, we often must abstain from unjust systems, and fasting is one way to exercise that muscle. The second: the value of community. For many, special bonds are formed when we gather in times of struggle -- whether through breaking a fast together or affirming one another's dignity and power to end systems of oppression.</span>There is no cost to attend, but space is limited.
