Before the present church was built, Greek Orthodox worshippers in the rapidly-growing east Valley community of Chandler leased a room at a local elementary school for their Sunday services. In the late 1970s a number of first, second and third generation Greek-Americans, along with an immigrant community, began to collect money for a church through donations and fund-raising activities. By 1982 the community was able to dedicate the church in its current location. Activities and Schedule

To learn about current events, activities, and schedules, please visit the [St. Katherine's Church website.](http://www.st-katherine.org/) The church sponsors a range of activities, including the *Philiptochos* society (a women's charitable organization), instruction in traditional Greek dancing, Greek language lessons, and choir. The church also organizes a major, community-wide "Food Festival" each spring that highlights Greek food and culture and raises money for the church. Demographics

The church is a fairly even mixture of different age groups. Although Greek-Americans form the majority of worshippers, other Orthodox ethnic communities also participate.
